A Hawick-based charitable organisation which provides housing support for people with learning disabilities, mental health issues and dementia has been praised following a recent inspection.

Streets Ahead (West) provides care at home and housing support to people in their own homes which is tailored to each person’s needs.

This can be from a few hours a week to 24 hours support.

Based at Unit 2 Annfield Mills in Teviot Crescent, the organisation was subject to a short notice visit completed on June 19.

At the time of this inspection the service was providing support to 30 people.

Key findings were that staff demonstrated an enabling approach by promoting people’s independence.

Staff knew and understood what health conditions people had and how they impacted on the person.

There were sufficient support staff employed to meet the needs of supported people.

Management also promoted a learning culture and sought continual improvement of the service.

The service received three ratings of ‘very good’ and one of ‘good’.

A report states: “We found significant strengths in aspects of the care and support provided and how these supported positive outcomes for people.”
