An NHS Borders health boss has heaped praise on hard-working staff after calling time on her career.

NHS Borders Chair, Karen Hamilton has announced that she will be retiring at the end of December 2025.

Karen has been a member of NHS Borders Board for twelve years, initially as a non-executive director before being appointed as chair in 2019.

During this time, she has overseen significant developments and supported the organisation through both challenges and achievements.

Commenting on the announcement, Karen said: “I have enjoyed my time with the Board immensely. It has been both rewarding and challenging; and what makes every moment worthwhile is observing what our staff do, day in, day out to care for and support our patients and wider communities.

“As I make my move to retirement, I will be leaving the organisation at a very exciting time.

“The introduction of our new organisational strategy, the imminent co-production of our clinical strategy and the commitments we have made to developing sustainable, future-proofed services and creating an environment where people in our communities are empowered to take control of their own health and wellbeing.

“I strongly believe this is the right direction of travel for NHS Borders.”
