Colin Beattie MSP, Midlothian North & Musselburgh, writes his monthly column for Midlothian View.

I would like to sincerely thank everyone who placed their faith in me and voted for me to represent Midlothian North at the Scottish Parliament. It has been an honour since first being elected in 2011 and I will continue to give it my all to get results for the people of Midlothian North. I would also like to thank the other candidates who contributed to a spirited campaign. During conversations I had during the campaign period the feedback I received was that easing the cost-of-living, improving access to healthcare, and investing in our schools are the communities’ top priorities.

I am confident that the policies being put forward will make a meaningful difference for families facing rising costs and pressure on public services, and I will work with colleagues to ensure we see movement on these.

I hope to see the bus fare and essential food price caps to be introduced as soon as possible which will bring down costs during these challenging times.

Healthcare services in Midlothian are under increasing pressure as Midlothian continues to grow rapidly. Too many people are struggling to access their GP. This is why my first act since being elected was to request a walk-in GP centre in the constituency with the Scottish Government. This will help ease pressure while improving access for residents.

Now that I have officially been sworn in, my office is once again open for new casework. I am currently working to confirm details of constituent surgeries, and I will share these as soon as possible. In the meantime, my team and I can assist with a range of matters including, housing, education, healthcare and some social security benefits. You can contact my office on 0131 454 0204 or via email at [email protected].

Thank you again for putting your trust in me. My focus is on delivering real improvements for the people of Midlothian North.
