Plans for new Allanbank neighbourhood

An “inclusive new neighbourhood” is to be created in a Berwickshire town after a near-£6m deal was struck.

Whiteburn Projects Ltd has agreed a £5.95 million design and build contract with Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA) for the delivery of 27 new affordable homes at its Allanbank development in Lauder.

The homes – ranging from one-bedroom bungalows to four-bedroom family houses – have been designed on a tenure-blind basis to integrate seamlessly with the wider masterplan for Whiteburn’s Allanbank development.

This approach ensures that affordable and private homes are indistinguishable in design quality, layout, and materials, supporting a cohesive and inclusive new neighbourhood.

Providing these affordable homes is one of the community benefits and planning conditions of the Allanbank development.

Infrastructure works are scheduled to begin on site this month, with the first new homes expected to be ready for occupation in late summer or early autumn 2027.

It’s an exciting time for Lauder as the housebuilder’s vision for Allanbank makes further progress.

Eve McCurrich, managing director of Whiteburn Projects, said: “Scottish Borders Housing Association has worked with us from the outset on the delivery of the affordable home provision at Allanbank, and their representatives attended public consultations and fully supported our planning process.

“It has been a genuinely collaborative approach that benefits the overall development.

“I am delighted that we have completed our contract negotiations and are now moving into the construction phase to deliver this much-needed affordable housing alongside our private homes for sale.

“The local community of Lauder will start to see our vision for Allanbank take shape over the coming months, and it’s great for our whole team to be back in the Borders.”

“We are grateful for the support of Scottish Borders Council and the Scottish Government in enabling the delivery of these high-quality, energy-efficient homes, and we look forward to seeing them take shape.”
