The owner of a seafood takeaway with an international following want to open it all year round.
The Lobster Shack at North Berwick Harbour has been a seasonal attraction for locals and holidaymakers for more than a decade.
Now owner and East Lothian local businessman Stirling Stewart has applied for a licence to sell alcohol all year round at the eaterie after he was granted planning permission to keep the temporary shack at the harbour for another three years.
He is asking East Lothian Licensing Board to allow the shack to sell alcohol seven days a week from 11am until 8pm at the harbour.
The Lobster Shack has featured in the media at home and abroad with a TV company in Germany filming it for a programme and an appearance in Street Food Scotland.
Applying to renew planning permission for the shack in the summer, representatives of Mr Stirling said: “Having the Lobster shack remaining open has an economic benefit to the wider community as well with increased business for local fishermen with a direct link to the local market,
“Also, the Lobster shack has a large following on social media from all over the
world and it can be seen from posts on social media that people travel from far and wide to sample East Lothian seafood at the harbour.”
The bid for a year round drinks licence has received no objections and neither Police Scotland nor the board’s licensing standards officer have submitted any comments or conditions relating to the application.
The board will meet to discuss the licence later this week.
