Ladywood Leisure Centre Xmas Appeal

Christine Grahame MSP alongside Ian Rammage of Ladywood Leisure Centre

Local MSP, Christine Grahame, has welcomed the launch of Ladywood Leisure Centre’s Christmas Appeal in Penicuik. In previous years the centre has joined in with national present appeals, however this year they decided to think local and are collecting donations of presents for children involved with East and Midlothian Women’s Aid.

Ms Grahame visited the community-owned Ladywood Leisure Centre last week to mark the launch of the campaign and make her own donation some boys’ Lego models to the collection.

Commenting, she said:

“I campaigned with residents in 2006 to keep the centre open and I’m delighted to see it continue to support the local community in this way. The volunteers there are incredibly hard working and do a fantastic job for the area.

“It’s excellent that the centre will be using their Christmas present drive to support local Women’s Aid this year. Women’s Aid supports women and their children to escape abusive relationships.

“I hope that by having access to the presents donated these families will find it a little bit easier to have a happy, safe Christmas this year. “

Ian Rammage of the Ladywood Leisure Centre added:

“ For the past few years we at Ladywood, with the fantastic help of the public, have supported Radio Forth Mission Christmas Help a Child Appeal. This year we have decided to try and help Midlothian and East Lothian Women’s Aid, it’s aims are the same as but with much less publicity capabilities.

“If you are able to get an additional toy or gift for a child who, through no fault of their own, will not have anything at Christmas it would be most appreciated. We will have a collection point in the foyer at Ladywood Leisure Centre and I will personally hand them in to Women’s Aid for distribution.”

The centre is now hoping for a generous response from the local community and donations can be made at the Ladywood Centre on Yarrow Court in Penicuik. The appeal is collecting presents such as toys, books and games for children and teenagers of all ages until 19th December. All presents, big or small, are welcomed and donations for older children are particularly appreciated.
