Loanhead Children’s Day is Midlothian’s oldest local festival and one of Scotland’s largest traditional children’s galas. This year’s Children’s Day will take place on Saturday 28th June.
The centrepiece of the event is the Crowning of Loanhead’s 113th School Queen, Georgia Yorkston. This takes place on Fountain Green in the centre of Loanhead at 11.45 am.
Following the crowning, the Gala Procession moves off at 1.00 pm and makes its way around Loanhead accompanied by 12 bands.
From 1.30 pm an afternoon of family entertainment takes place in the Memorial Park. Star attraction for 2025 is a spectacular Medieval Jousting Show. Other attractions include W3L Wrestling, Dinosaur Invasion, Storm In A Teacup, Children’s Entertainers, Pop the Bubbleman, Edinburgh Menagerie, Owl Magic, bands, dancers and much more, plus a large funfair.
So, if you enjoy colour, spectacle, traditional ceremonies, processions, marching bands, top quality children’s entertainers, exciting arena performances, thrilling fairground rides or simply browsing the stalls, then this is an event not to be missed. It’s also a great value family day out with free admission to all venues.
Before the big day on Saturday 28 June there is a week of Gala events, including a Fun Run, outdoor concerts and performances, a Dog Show, a Children’s Football Competition, Senior Citizens’ Social Afternoon and Children’s Sports. For more information, follow us on facebook (Loanhead Children’s Gala Day official page) or pick up a copy of the souvenir brochure, on sale in local shops.
If visiting Loanhead on Saturday 28 June, please bear in mind there are various parking restrictions, road closures and a traffic diversion in the period up to 2.00 pm.
