Election time

Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly

Local democracy will be at work within two Borders communities this month.

Nominations are invited for both Galashiels Community Council and Heriot Community Council.

The elections are launched today, Thursday, February 2026, and are open to members of the community whose names appear on the current Electoral Register for the areas.

The closing date for nominations to be a community councillor is 4pm on Thursday, February 26.

In Galashiels the community council consists of a maximum of 15 members, with six in Heriot. In the event of there being more nominations than places, a ballot will be held.
