Bilston-based FMS Fire and Security Ltd recently donated a full set of Craft, Design and Technology text books to Newbattle Community High School after learning the school was struggling to afford the latest versions and some pupils were buying their own.

Head Teacher Gib McMillan said the gift will make a big difference to the pupils’ learning. He said:

“Many thanks to FMS. These text books are expensive. It’s a huge help that all pupils can now access the latest CDT books which mean everyone has the same opportunity to learn.”

Dominic Rea, Director of FMS, which recently won the maintenance contract for fire and security system with University of Edinburgh, said:

“Education is key to each young person’s success in life, so it was a privilege to donate the course books to the school on behalf of FMS Fire and Security Ltd.

“During the pandemic it has been very difficult for all children and young adults to sustain their education and my hope that these books will aid the learning of the pupils at Newbattle High School.”

Mr McMillan also thanked the University of Edinburgh for putting the school in touch with FSS as part of its community benefits contractual arrangement.
