Colin Beattie, MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh, congratulates Midlothian based company Macsween for receiving an award for their outstanding contribution to food and drink at the Scottish Food & Drink Excellence Awards.

Macsween is a third generation family company in Midlothian, currently run by James and Jo Macsween. The company was first established as a butchers shop in Edinburgh in the 1950’s and has since passed down through a family of natural entrepreneurs. Since their launch 60 years ago Macsween has continued to win awards and accolades for their products.

The Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards have been recognising and rewarding the very best in Scottish food and drink for many years. This year the judging panel tasted 161 product entries during a two day tasting session. The judges then awarded Jo and James Macsween for their record in reaching new customers through innovative product development and inspiration marketing.

Colin Beattie MSP said: ‘I’ve always been impressed by the products from Macsween and feel they truly deserve this award.

‘Macsween has effectively removed stigmas about haggis with their innovative and quality products. I have visited their factory and know that in every step of the process Macsween strives to give its customers haggis they will love.

‘I give my sincere congratulations to James and Jo Macsween on being recognized for their outstanding contribution to food and drink at the Scottish Food & Drink Excellence Awards.’
