The Leith Gala that took place on Saturday ended early due to bad and dangerous weather, leaving locals dissapointed.

The organisers, Leith Festival, packed up the annual gala day earlier than expected due to what they described as ‘appalling weather and dangerous thunder and lightning’. The unforeseen bad weather forced the organisers to make a desicion to end the gala day event just after 12pm for safety reasons.

Posting to Facebook just after calling the gala day off, Leith Festival said, “Due to appalling weather and dangerous thunder and lightning. For safety reasons we are closing the gala day event. This was not an easy decision. We did try persevere but today the weather was not on our side. Thanks to all traders and public that braced the weather.”

Locals have been left disappointed, posting to Facebook to express their frustration.

One commented under Leith Festivals announcement, saying, “That is so very disappointing, there are so many people who put so much effort and time into this each and every year.”

With another commenting, “Thanks to the organisers for persevering. You made the safe decision.”

With safety concerns forcing the hard decision to be made, no following announcement has been made regarding rescheduling the gala day.
