Midlothian Community Action (MCA) marched amongst thousands calling for poverty action during the Scotland Demands Matter march in Edinburgh on Saturday (25 October).
Marching alongside colleagues from the Midlothian Climate Action Hub and Finacial Inclusion Network (MFIN), MCA represented Midlothian at the long-awaited march.
After hosting a ‘Banner Making for Change’ session on the 25th of October, MCA encouraged the Midlothian public to join them in making Midlothian’s voice heard.
Organised by The Poverty Alliance, the march called for Scotland’s leadership to make changes surrounding economical challenges for many in the country, such as the need for better jobs, better investment for life’s essentials and better social security.
Explaining the march as a success, MCA’s Chief Officer, Dr Lesley Kelly, said:
“We at Midlothian Community Action were absolutely delighted to be part of the Scotland Demands Better march. It was inspiring to stand alongside so many passionate individuals and organisations, united in our call for a fairer, more just Scotland.
“The energy and solidarity on the day truly reflected the strength of our communities and the urgency of our shared demands.”
Saturday’s march assembled at 10am at the Scottish Parliament, proceeding along the Royal Mile to George IV Bridge, concluding at the Meadows with a rally.
MCA’s Volunteering Development Manager, Magdalena Clark, explained:
“The Scotland Demands Better campaign speaks directly to the challenges our communities face every day. As a third sector interface, we see the impact of social injustice, health inequalities, underinvestment in local services, insecure work, and inadequate social security.”
