To the Editor,

Last Thursday the voters of Midlothian North and Musselburgh voted to elect the candidate who will represent the constituency during the next term of the Scottish Parliament.

I would like to congratulate Colin Beattie (SNP) on his re election and Jeremy Balfour (Con) for his election to the parliament as a list candidate.

The campaign in Midlothian North and Musselburgh was fought by all the candidates in a positive way and with mutual respect.

Ultimately, I am disappointed that I was unsuccessful in these elections but I am proud to have represented the cause of the Labour Party with a message that included Socialism, Solidarity and Equality.

I hope that in the next parliament the issues that were raised again and again on the doorstep will be addressed – access to GP services, investing in Further Education and opposition to Fracking.

I would also like to thank those who voted Labour at these elections and we will continue to work hard in the years ahead to build on the faith that you have shown in us.
