Midlothian community leaders recognised in 2026 New Year Honours List

Six people from Midlothian have been recognised in The King’s 2026 New Year Honours List, celebrating their outstanding contributions to public service and their communities. One recipient has been awarded an OBE, with five receiving MBEs.

– Marie Sarah Owen (LS Productions), awarded an OBE for services to the creative industries and economic development (Dalkeith)

– Marc Yocksan Bell (Police Scotland, Edinburgh), awarded an MBE for services to young people and missing persons (Dalkeith)

– Jennifer Mitchell Fairgrieve (Libertus Services), awarded an MBE for services to older people (Loanhead)

– Professor Desmond Bruin Angus Thompson FRSE (Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh), awarded an MBE for services to nature and conservation (Penicuik)

– Louise Marie Gough (Bright Sparks SCIO), awarded an MBE for services to foster care (Lasswade)

– James John Wilson (Bonnyrigg Rose Community Football Club), awarded an MBE for services to youth development, sport, and community empowerment (Gorebridge)

Commenting on the announcements, Kirsty McNeill MP, Member of Parliament for Midlothian, said:

“A huge congratulations to the six outstanding folk from Midlothian recognised in this year’s New Year Honours List. It is fantastic to see so many of our local leaders receive well-deserved recognition for their dedication and hard work”.
