Midlothian Council’s website has retained the highest number of stars awarded by public sector industry IT professionals.
The Society of IT Practitioners (SOCITM) rated the council website as among the best performing in the United Kingdom. Midlothian’s was one of only 40 of 414 local authority websites to achieve the accolade.
SOCITM awards the rating based on, among other criteria, four ‘customer journeys’ by professional reviewers. This year, Midlothian was reviewed on:
– finding out about roadworks
– finding childcare
– signing up for e-resources and
– finding out about rubbish collection dates
For two of these tasks, finding childcare and signing up for e-resources, the council was commended for good practice.
Four star sites also passed accessibility tests for people with disabilities and were rated highly for the quality of their navigation.
The total score of 15 stars across the four categories out of a possible 16 stars is among the best in Scotland. Only four other Scottish local authorities were awarded an overall score of four stars for all aspects of their website.
Midlothian Council leader, Councillor Derek Milligan, said:
“It’s great news the council has retained its top rating.
“Well done to all of our content editors, our website team and Digital Services for making sure the website is easy to use, responsive, customer-focussed and up-to-date.
“Work is ongoing to make sure customers can access even more services online.”
