Midlothian Community Action (MCA) is hosting a ‘banner making for change’ session ahead of the up-coming Scotland Demands Better march in Edinburgh.
Helping make sure Midlothian has a strong representation at the march, MCA in partnership with Midlothian Climate Action Network are encouraging the Midlothian public to get creative in their fight for change by hosting a banner making activity on Thursday the 23rd of October at One Dalkeith, which they have titled ‘Midlothian Demands Better’.
Offering a chance for people to come together, share ideas, and make banners that reflect the local issues they care about most, this is all for the up-coming Scotland Demands Better march in Edinburgh on the 25th of October.
Organised by The Poverty Alliance, the march calls for Scotland’s leadership to make changes surrounding economical challenges for many in the country, such as the need for better jobs, better investment for life’s essentials and better social security.
MCA’s Volunteering Development Manager, Magdalena Clark, explained:
“The Scotland Demands Better campaign speaks directly to the challenges our communities face every day. As a third sector interface, we see the impact of social injustice, health inequalities, underinvestment in local services, insecure work, and inadequate social security.
“This banner-making session is a way for Midlothian’s voluntary sector to come together, share our demands, and march together in solidarity as part of national movement for change we deserve.”
Whether it’s housing, transport, wages, or public services, MCA are allowing the public to explore what ‘better’ means for Midlothian, hosting both a banner making activity alongside a space for discussion.
The march on the 25th is planned to assemble from 10am at the Scottish Parliament, proceeding along the Royal Mile to George IV Bridge and concluding at The Meadows with a rally involving music, speeches, stalls and workshops. MCA’s banner-making session is part of the wider effort to ensure Midlothian’s voice is heard at the march.
MCA explained:
“Change for the better happens when people stand together and demand it. Scotland needs that change. Too many are struggling to afford life’s essentials. Too many are going hungry, living in cold homes, or working jobs that don’t pay the bills.
“This march is about standing together to say: we deserve better. Midlothian’s voice matters.”
