Polling Station

With the Midlothian East by-election taking place today (Thursday), Dr Grace Vickers Returning Officer and Chief Executive of Midlothian Council said:

“Many people have chosen to vote by post but please be assured if you’re voting in person, we’re taking all precautions to make sure you can do so as safely as possible.”

“Measures to keep voters and staff safe will include social distancing, one way-systems, extra cleaning and wearing face coverings.

“As part of a cross-party commitment to ensuring voter safety during the current pandemic, all five candidates have agreed not to place canvassers outside polling stations. I am grateful to the candidates and their respective political parties for this stance.”

Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm.

The election will use the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system where voters can rank candidates in order of preference rather than using a single cross. Voters can give a rank to as many or as few candidates as they like.
