A junior golfer from Bonnyrigg has her eyes on success as she continues her development far from Midlothian at a US College.
Megan Fallon, 18, moved to Seminole State Junior College, Florida, in August last year to pursue her golf dreams after developing her game at Broomieknowe Golf Club in her hometown.
Showing talent at a young age, Megan saw great success in Midlothian, winning the Junior Ladies Scottish Championship in 2023 and 2024, which was the counties first success in the tournament since 1933.
Joining Broomieknowe Golf Club at 10 years old, under the guidance of Junior Convener at the club, Yvonne Dickson, she progressed quickly, going on to represent the club at junior matches. At around 11 years old Megan joined the Junior Girls Development Squad attached to Midlothian Ladies County Golf Association (MCLGA) and was coached by Chloe Thackeray, a professional golf coach in the area.
Only five years after starting the sport, at 15 years old, Megan began playing in the club’s ladies team which included winning local golf club leagues in the Edinburgh and Midlothian area. At the same time Chloe became her personal coach, focusing attention on Megan’s development.
Under Chloe’s coaching, Megan was selected to represent the MCLGA Junior Girls Team and Ladies Team, seeing great success with both. Megan helped Midlothian win the Cutherbertson Cup in 2021, 2022 and 2024.
Every year Midlothian Ladies would play a round robin event against East Lothian, Fife and Stirling and Clackmannanshire, called the Jamboree event. With Megan in the squad, Midlothian has won the event in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The winner of this event progressed to play the best counties in Scotland. This event saw Midlothian pick up the trophy two consecutive years in a row (2023 and 2024), the first wins since the 1930’s.
Another key stage in Megan’s development was being selected for the Scotland Development Squad, which she has been a part of since 2022, giving her larger scale opportunities including playing abroad.
Gaining great experience playing in Barcelona, Megan helped represent the Junior Tour in 2023. A few months later, this experience led to Megan winning the Junior Tour Order of Merit Championship in Madrid by 6 shots.
Megan’s father, Mark Fallon, explained how proud he is of his daughter’s success, describing the sport as ‘very demanding where it sometimes can be lonely’, crediting Megan on her mental resilience throughout her development.
He said: “I can say regarding Megan is that we are so proud of her in what she has achieved in a very demanding sport where it sometimes can be lonely if things aren’t going your way on the course, it’s where mental toughness comes into play and she just concentrates and gives 100% on the next shot and forgets the previous hole and moves on.”
“Megan from a young age has always wanted to go to the USA and play golf, so she is living her dream at the moment.”

Megan was offered a full scholarship in November 2024 with Seminole State College based at Lake Mary, Florida. Invited to join their well known golf programme and receive mentorship from an experienced American coach, Christa Teno.
Mark added: “Where else can you play golf everyday on 4 fantastic courses in Lake Mary, Florida and have the best coaches and practice facilities on her doorstep? Also getting an education towards a degree is a huge part of the golf scholarship.”
Megan’s training programme alongside studies makes for a busy schedule. Her Monday to Friday mornings consist of study classes then straight to golf practice from 1pm to 6pm. The golf training involves a mixture of playing 18 holes and gym training, alongside practicing at Rio Pinar Golf Club or The Mike Bender Academy on Friday’s.
Despite Mark explaining that Megan has strong mental toughness, she also receives ‘brain training’ at the college which consists of sports psychology to deal with the mental side of golf.
Training six days a week, on her one day off, which is usually a Sunday, Megan explained that she normally spends the day shopping, at the beach or visiting the many attractions in Orlando.
Despite a very busy schedule, Megan is utilising her opportunity to its full extent with Mark repeating his daughter’s favourite quote, “hope everyone is strapped in for this golf rollercoaster!”
Mark added: “Megan is loving life in the states and being with her over the Christmas and New Year period has been great, but as her parents, it was reassuring that she told us she is looking forward to going back to her 2nd home.
“She is loving life in college and Florida especially. She was kind of glad to get back there due wanting to play and practice golf, they have a lot of competitions coming up. She wasn’t able to practice here in Scotland due to the cold weather and prefers the warmer climate.”
Mark explained that Megan’s plan is to stay at the college for two years, develop her skills further, then move onto a US University for a further two to three years.
During summer months when Megan is home from Florida she is coached by Bradley Neil, a professional Scottish golfer, who is based at Turnhouse Golf Club in Edinburgh.
Excited to get back to her second home in Florida after being home for Christmas, Megan’s success that started in Midlothian is continuing abroad, with her drive and aspirations growing stronger across in the US.
