Midlothian Labour has announced the names of their candidates to contest the Local Government elections on May 5th.

Labour Leader Derek Milligan said:

“I am delighted to be leading a diverse team of Labour candidates in this year’s Council Elections. The Midlothian Labour team bring a wealth of experience. Active members of their local communities with backgrounds in business, social services, and volunteering. Half of our candidates are new with the other half having previously held key roles in the Council.

“Midlothian Labour remains focused on local issues that are priorities for residents – education, housing, local services, and our public spaces. We want to continue our work of investing in the community and building an environmentally sustainable local economy. However, this requires Scottish Government to provide fair funding, and only Labour Councillors will hold them to account.

“Midlothian Labour’s leadership of the council over the last five years, has protected services to our most venerable residents, delivered 1000 new council houses, funding of 14 additional frontline police officers, created a new green energy company and made record investments in schools and education. Midlothian Labour is appealing to residents to ensure this work continues and further progress is made by voting Labour on May 5th.”

Midlothian Labour’s candidates are: –

Ward 1 Penicuik – Willie McEwan
Ward 2 Bonnyrigg – Derek Milligan
Ward 3 Dalkeith – Stephen Curran & Margot Russell
Ward 4 Midlothian West – Russell Imrie
Ward 5 Midlothian East – Brian Pottinger
Ward 6 Midlothian South – Kelly Drummond & Hazel Flanagan

Two noticeable omissions are the Deputy Leader of Midlothian Council and Midlothian South councillor, Jim Muirhead and Midlothian East councillor John Hackett.
