David Sharp with his winning Midlothian team
Written by Nyo Logan
Midlothian darts professional David Sharp will look to carry strong local form onto the international stage this week as he competes in Players Championship events 13 and 14 in Hildesheim, Germany.
The PDC ProTour double-header, taking place on May 4–5 at Halle 39, represents another key opportunity for Sharp to build momentum and prize money in his debut season as a full-time professional.
Despite back-to-back first-round exits in the last two events, Sharp remains focused on responding positively and making deeper runs as he continues to adjust to the demands of life on the professional tour. Sharp was beaten 6–3 in both games by the Netherlands’ Martijn Dragt and England’s Tommy Lishman.
“Obviously the last couple of events didn’t go the way I wanted, but I feel my game is still in a good place and I’m looking forward to putting that right this week. I’ve been putting in a lot of time on the practice board and working hard with the new Unicorn darts equipment to find what suits me best.”
Earlier performances this season have already shown the Midlothian darts star’s capability at this level, with strong averages and notable victories against former world champions Michael Smith and Peter Wright underlining his potential to compete with some of the sport’s top names.
Sharp further demonstrated his quality with a 6–3 victory over Beau Greaves earlier this season. Greaves has since become the first woman to win a PDC ProTour ranking title and is now one of the standout performers on the ProTour.
Away from the professional circuit, Sharp has also been part of a dominant local darts team, playing a key role in his Midlothian-based Friday night darts team that recently completed a clean sweep winning all 3 leagues.
The strength within The Ship Inn, Dalkeith, highlights the high standard of competition Sharp is regularly exposed to, with the team featuring fellow PDC Tour Card holder Greg Ritchie alongside former professional Darren Beveridge, better known as “Ice Cold”, who recently impressed on the big stage at Alexandra Palace.
Also part of the local team is Stuart Wares, who recently represented Scotland and enjoyed success at the 2026 British Internationals Championship, with Jamie Campbell adding further strength to the squad.
“The standard in The Ship’s team is really high and we push each other every week. It definitely helps keep me sharp going into the ProTour events.”
“I’ve played in all the different local leagues across the years but really enjoy the Friday nights. With the double-in, double-out format, it’s something different. It’s always a great laugh with the boys, and it helps me go into events feeling relaxed.”
That competitive environment continues to provide valuable preparation, allowing Sharp to maintain match sharpness and confidence between professional events.
As he heads to Germany, the focus will be on translating that form into results on the PDC stage, with the aim of progressing further into the events and continuing his steady development.
“The goal is to go there, play well and get a run going. I know if I perform to my level, the results will come. Every player still has their eye on Alexandra Palace at the end of the year and I know I need to start winning to get there.”
Currently sitting around 117 in the world rankings, David Sharp is targeting a place inside the top 64 by the end of his second year on the PDC tour. With encouraging signs already shown in his debut campaign, Sharp believes consistent performances will be key as he looks to establish himself among the sport’s leading players.
