Midlothian MP Kirsty McNeill has called on Lothian Buses to reverse plans to scrap the number 46 service and reroute the number 48.

The proposed changes will remove the only direct bus links from Rosewell, Bonnyrigg and the top of Mayfield to the Royal Infirmary – as well as leaving the whole top side of Poltonhall and Rosewell without a bus to the Community Hospital, out of hours services or a major supermarket.

These changes will also remove vital direct connections between between Rosewell and Dalkeith, as well as from Mayfield to Newtongrange and Gorebridge.

In a letter to Lothian Buses, Kirsty McNeill said:

“More than 1,400 people have already signed my petition calling for these cuts to be reversed. This equates to around 1 in every 70 people in Midlothian – highlighting the significant local concern about the impact these decisions will have on people’s ability to get to work, healthcare appointments and stay connected with loved ones.

“I strongly urge Lothian Buses to reconsider these cuts and to listen to the voices of residents. I would also welcome the opportunity for [Lothian Buses] to engage directly with those affected through a public meeting in Midlothian.”
