The Labour Government will provide up to £10,000 of funding for Armed Forces Day celebrations in Midlothian, and MP Kirsty McNeill is encouraging local groups to submit bids.

An Armed Forces Day event can include a community picnic or barbecue, musical performances, parades, stands run by local military units and veterans charities, hands-on experiences and talks by inspiring service personnel.

The funding is the latest step in the Labour government’s promise to renew the nation’s relationship with those who serve. Labour is delivering on that promise with a record £9bn renewal and repair of forces’ housing; the biggest pay-rise in two decades; extending the armed forces covenant to deliver better services; and a landmark veterans’ strategy.

Kirsty McNeill MP said:

“Midlothian proudly backs our armed forces community. I’m delighted our Labour government is funding these vital community events and I will proudly back a bid with so that the whole of Midlothian can come together and celebrate alongside service personnel in June”.

Local groups can find out more at www.armedforcesday.org.uk/get-involved/organise-your-own-event/apply-for-funding/.

Applications are now open and close on 30th March 2026.
