I think it is incredible that in Midlothian we have the Midlothian Snowsports Centre on our doorsteps, which is the second longest dry ski slope in Europe, and the UK’s longest and most challenging artificial ski slope!
The centre is open seven days a week, fifty weeks a year, and has two main slopes, three nursery slopes and a jump slope which are all floodlit and have something to offer everyone.
Even if you’ve never tried snowsports before, it’s easy to start with equipment provided and a qualified and friendly team of instructors to introduce you to the slopes, with lessons available for all levels.
For a slightly more exhilarating experience I would highly recommend trying tubing or book a tubing party, with friends, family or colleagues. To top it off, after your session, you can catch your breath and relax in Cafe 360 – enjoy the stunning views of the Pentland Hills and keep an eye on all the action on the slopes at the same time.
Exciting plans for the future will see the Centre being developed into an even bigger and better attraction for our communities, and to the global tourism market. With plans to transform the Centre into a multi-activity leisure attraction that will include one of the UK’s fastest zip wires, reaching speeds of up to 50 kilometres an hour and routed over the new building.
Once completed, Destination Hillend will also offer indoor soft play and climbing, shops and a high-quality food court, all housed in a modern, energy-efficient building, which will be fully accessible by bus.
And the best part about Hillend is that every single penny of profit will be reinvested back into our communities, into the services that people care most about. It is a truly unique community asset.
