The UK Labour Government has announced that the Edinburgh and South East region will receive £37.8 million of new funds to drive economic growth.
The UK Government is backing regional economies across Scotland with £140 million of new investment. Spread over three years, it will fund regional projects which will drive economic growth.
That might mean projects like infrastructure investment, business support or skills development – projects which will make a real difference in terms of skilled jobs and people’s prosperity.
All this investment is on top of a block grant settlement for the Scottish Government. Since the election in 2024, the UK Government has provided the Scottish Government with more than £11 billion in additional funding.
Welcoming the announcement, Midlothian MP Kirsty McNeill said:
“Labour promised to end austerity and I’m incredibly proud to say we have. Alongside delivering the largest financial settlement in the history of devolution for the Scottish Government, our Labour Government is investing directly in Midlothian’s future – investment that will have a tangible impact on our area’s prosperity and people’s lives.”
