Written by Midlothian View Reporter, Liam Eunson

Midlothian Financial Inclusion Network (MFIN) is holding an event during Scotland’s Challenge Poverty Week 6-12 October 2025.

The theme of the event is ‘Sustaining Anti-Poverty Work in Challenging Times’ and is open to all third sector organisations in Midlothian. We will be hearing from funders, The Robertson Trust and The National Lottery about resources and funding available. A speaker from Midlothian Council will also be there to share what the Census tells us about poverty in Midlothian, as well as a speaker from Midlothian Climate Action Network, sharing climate adaptation and funding insights.

The event – being held on Tuesday 7 October, 10-12.30pm at St John’s & King’s Park Church – is part of Challenge Poverty Week.

The event is open to all third sector organisations in Midlothian, register on Eventbrite here.

Challenge Poverty Week is Scotland’s annual chance to highlight the injustice of poverty, and to celebrate collective action based on justice and compassion. It’s a chance for you to raise your voice against poverty and unite with others in calling for a just and equal Scotland. Each year, hundreds of organisations do just that, including elected representative, charities and NGOs, local authorities, faith groups, businesses, school and colleges, trade unions, professional bodies and more.

Peter Kelly of The Poverty Alliance said:

“We’re very pleased that Midlothian is marking this year’s Challenge Poverty Week. In a rich country like ours, poverty is an injustice that weakens us all as a society. But we can solve it. We can redesign our economy to make sure people have incomes that are adequate enough to live a life with freedom and dignity.”
