Written by Midlothian View Reporter, Luke Jackson
Recently Midlothian Council decided to rename ‘Penicuik Park’ as ‘Montgomery Park.’ This week Penicuik Athletic Football Club committee, after consulting all of their stakeholders, and proposing it at their Annual General Meeting this week have also decided that their ground should also be renamed as ‘Montgomery Park.’ The AGM backed the proposal unanimously.
The club said: “We wish to honour our late friend Adam Montgomery who as a councillor and Provost of Midlothian worked tirelessly to assist the club in many ways.”
Scott Montgomery said ‘Our family were delighted to learn that at Wednesday’s AGM that Penicuik Athletic have agreed to rename the ground in memory of Cllr Montgomery. He would be very proud that the ground now carries his name. He was a keen supporter of the club both from the terraces and in his role as a local councillor. We all look forward to watching matches at Montgomery Park.’
The Labour Councillor died in 2018 having represented Penicuik for over 31 years on both Lothian Region and Midlothian councils. He was also Midlothian Provost at the time of his death.
