More people than ever before will be eligible for up to £10,000 or more of home energy efficiency improvements following recent changes to the Warmer Homes Scotland programme.
The Scottish Government has broadened the eligibility of its flagship programme, opening it up to even more households across the country.
The Warmer Homes Scotland programme supports homeowners and private sector tenants who are struggling to stay warm and keep up with their energy costs. It does this by upgrading insulation and heating systems, making homes warmer and cheaper to run. Experts carry out a home survey to work out which energy efficiency improvements will most effectively raise comfort and lower energy bills.
Eligible applicants could then receive home upgrades worth up to £10,000 or more.
Referrals for Warmer Homes Scotland are made through Home Energy Scotland, which has published the full eligibility criteria on its website.
Jack Murdoch, Advice Team Manager from Home Energy Scotland’s South East Centre said:
“We’re really pleased that we’ll be able to help more people stay warmer and worry less about their energy costs this winter. We’d encourage anyone who is struggling with a cold home and high bills to check whether they meet the criteria. For example, one group we know would likely be eligible but often don’t apply are those over 75 who don’t have a working heating system.”
Sarah, a recipient of Warmer Homes Scotland funding, said:
“Everyone involved in my Warmer Homes Scotland journey was friendly and accommodating, and this was great when I have a changing schedule and childcare to think about. It’s important that people know this funding is real, and it’s there to help people… I had spoken to someone recently about Warmer Homes Scotland and told them to go for it. Life is so much easier now, it’s a massive weight off.”
Home Energy Scotland provide two ways for people to check whether they are eligible for the Warmer Homes Scotland programme.
