An independent Musselburgh opticians marked its first anniversary with a community fundraising event, raising £405 for a local charity that supports elderly residents across East Lothian.
McLeish Eyecare, located on Bridge Street, marked the first anniversary of the merger and relocation of IJ McLeish Opticians and Montgomery Optometrists with an in-practice event on 3rd March, held in partnership with The Hollies Musselburgh.
Running throughout March, the team at McLeish Eyecare held a ‘spin the wheel’ fundraiser with incentives of winning prizes such as umbrellas, sunglasses, bags and discounts on spectacles. They also introduced a children’s prize wheel which included family-friendly prizes for all to enjoy.
In addition, after collecting £405 in total, the practice had a celebratory final prize draw for all patients who attended appointments in the month of March. Drawn by team member Lisa MacDonald, multiple prizes were gifted to patients.
First place winner, Mary Lyon, won a gift voucher for Blueberry Gift Shop Musselburgh, alongside Margaret Ellis, who won a voucher for Lido restaurant Musselburgh. The children’s prize, drawn by Jorgie McMillan, saw two winners securing large easter eggs.
The team at McLeish Eyecare aimed to further give back to their community, showing support for fellow independent businesses in the town.
Practice Manager at McLeish Eyecare, Helen Dick, said: “The celebrations meant a lot to the entire team and we’re really grateful to be able to give back to the community that has shown us such immense support.
“The Hollies does such important work for elderly people locally, helping to reduce loneliness and provide meaningful support. Being able to raise some funds and support the work they do was the perfect way to celebrate reaching our first anniversary as McLeish Eyecare in our new location.”
McLeish Eyecare was established in 2025 through the merger of IJ McLeish Opticians and Montgomery Optometrists, bringing together two well-established practices with over 30 years of trusted, independent care. Following the merger, the newly combined team relocated to modern premises at 8 Bridge Street, creating an opportunity to refresh the practice environment and expand its offering.
Helen continued: “This past year, we have focused on strengthening the solid foundations of both practices while continuing to provide the highest standard of eye care to the local community.
“Marking our first anniversary by supporting a local charity is a natural reflection of the values we hold as an independent practice.”
