Colin Beattie MSP for Midlothian North and Musselburgh

Colin Beattie MSP, Midlothian North & Musselburgh, writes his monthly column for Midlothian View

As you may be aware, I will be standing again in the 2026 Scottish Parliament elections. I am seeking to represent the constituency of Midlothian North which will now include Newtongrange as a result of a change imposed by the Boundary Commission. Every 8-12 years the Scottish Parliament constituency and region boundaries are reviewed and occasionally amended due to a change in population.

This will be my last column before the election period begins, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support and to share some thoughts on what representing Midlothian North means to me.

It has always been and remains an honour to be the representative at the Scottish Parliament for a committed, hard-working and passionate community like Midlothian North. Over the past 15 years I have met many incredible people, from constituents to local organisations that make a real impact in the community. There are too many to mention in this short column.

As your representative I have always striven to listen to your concerns that have helped shape my priorities and work in the Scottish Parliament. I believe that good representation begins with listening. My staff and I have always endeavoured to get the best outcome for constituents who have come to me with an issue. Although it is, unfortunately, not always possible to achieve preferred outcomes, I hope my team and I have been able to support you to the best of our ability.

This work would not be possible without the people behind the scenes. Council staff, charities and community leaders. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in assisting the people of Midlothian North.

I will always be incredibly proud to have played a role in representing your interests. And I hope to be back with a new column in May, but until then, thank you.
