Nail bars, escape rooms and boot camps could be added to the list of premises needing a licence to operate in Midlothian in the future.
Councillors are being asked to give the go ahead for a consultation on plans to add a range of activities to its list of those currently needing a Public Entertainments Licence.
It includes nail bars, tanning and sunbed salons and massage parlours, escape rooms, boot camps and petting zoos.
It also proposes adding fireworks and bonfire displays to the list of events which will need a licence in the future.
The proposals come after officers revised the current list of activities which was set over a decade ago.
A meeting of the council’s general purposes committee will be asked to approve the new draft list and give officers the go ahead to take it out form public consultation before making a final decision.
A report by officers said a place of Public Entertainment was “any place where members of the public are admitted or may use any facilities for the purposes of entertainment or recreation”.
Small scale performance and events are excluded from licensing including community non-profit festivals, galas and other events.
The legislation also excludes athletics and sports grounds, some sex entertainment venues, as well as premises used for religious and education purposes.

A report on the outcome of the consultation, if approved, will be brought back to councillors for discussion in the future.
