The Hive at Dalkeith Country Park

Dalkeith Country Park is abuzz with excitement as it officially unveils The Hive – a brand- new, immersive glass observation hive opening to the public today, Thursday 28th August 2025.

Visitors are invited to step inside this captivating new attraction and witness the magic of hundreds of honey bees at work, all from the safety and wonder of a purpose-built, walk-in glass hive. Designed for curious minds of all ages, The Hive offers a rare glimpse into the fascinating world of bees, right at the heart of the estate.

At the centre of this project is The Bee Man – The Park’s resident expert and a third-generation beekeeper with nearly 80 years of hands-on experience. Having started at just nine years old, he brings a lifetime of knowledge and passion to The Hive. It’s thanks to him
that a local colony of bees has been safely relocated to their new home, allowing visitors to observe their buzzing brilliance up close.

But The Hive is more than just a spectacle, it’s a space for learning, inspiration, and connection. Bees play a vital role in our ecosystem, and The Hive gives everyone a chance to appreciate just how important these tiny pollinators are.

To celebrate today’s launch, Dalkeith Country Park is releasing a special first batch of estate-produced honey. Visitors can purchase jars directly from The Hive from Thursday 28th – Sunday 31st August, before it becomes available at The Store in Restoration Yard from
Monday – while stocks last.

The Hive will be open daily from 9am to 5pm. No booking required – just drop in and explore the buzz!
