The Edinburgh Council have published new parking plans for the Morningside area with a consultation open until the 1st of August.

The plans are for new parking spaces on the streets around South Morningside Primary School, including Balcarrea Street, Comiston Road and Morningside Drive. The council are introducing new parking area’s to prioritise local residents, creating more permit-holder spaces and creating greater waiting time restrictions.

Local Councillor Mandy Watt posted the plans on Facebook. She said, “Our plan will prioritise local residents by creating more permit-holder spaces and placing greater restrictions on waiting times, especially around Balcarres Street and South Morningside Primary School.”

The proposed new parking includes 4 permit holder’s parking places, 6 no waiting at any time places, 1 no waiting area and 1 new bicycle hanger parking place.

A consultation for residents to have their say on the plans is live until August the 1st. Councillor for the Morningside Ward, Marie-Clair Munro also shared the plans on Facebook, encouraging the public to review and comment on the proposal.

Local residents commented their opinions about the plans on her post.

One resident said, “I note these consultations are getting harder to view with the need to download multiple pdf’s, not that it makes any difference to CEC they will crash on anyway. Cars we hate you, residents we hate you…but love your cash. That’s the new strapline”.

Another commented, “I don’t think feedback from us will make any difference”.

With the consultation open until the end of the month and councillors encouraging feedback on the plans, the new parking areas are being introduced to fix issues local residents have with parking, prioritising permit holder parking areas.
