Tourists will get all steamed up if plans for a new sauna attraction at an £18m holiday complex in Peebles get the green light.

Forest Holidays has submitted a planning application to Scottish Borders Council to site a mobile sauna at its Glentress Forest holiday lodge development, which opened in November 2024.

The sauna is to be sited on land at Kittlegairy Hill, north of Linnburn Farmhouse and is to sit in a small clearing, away from the cabins and set back from the access track.

The area is predominantly covered by mature Stika Spruce that would provide a high degree of screening for the proposed sauna when viewed from nearest cabin and access track.

A report with the application states: “The sauna is a simple flat roofed structure clad in timber and stained to match surrounding cabins.

“The unit is transported to site on wheels but would be fixed to the ground and supported on a concrete slab to match the position of the wheels.

“Overall, it is considered that this proposal will have no detrimental impact upon the surrounding area due to the small scale and use of materials to blend in with the woodland setting.

“Moreover, it is considered that this addition to existing facilities will enhance the offering available to visitors.”
