An award-winning Borders care provider has announced a new residential specialist nursing service for younger adults with complex needs – preventing people being forced to leave the region and their families to access support.
QME Care is to launch of a new Specialist Complex Care Service for Adults aged 18 and over at Evanthea House in Kelso.
The aim is to expand access to high-quality nursing care for people with complex health needs across the Borders.
Traditionally, nursing homes have primarily supported older adults.
However, QME Care recognises that many younger adults in the community are living with complex conditions that require specialist clinical support.
Too often, individuals are forced to move outside the Borders to access the care they need, meaning separation from family, friends, and vital support networks.
The new service at Evanthea House has been developed to help address this gap.
As a not-for-profit care provider, QME Care is committed to supporting the communities it serves.
The new complex care provision is designed to enable people to remain closer to home, maintaining connections with loved ones while receiving the specialist nursing care they require.
The service will support adults aged 18+ with a range of complex health conditions, including neurological conditions, acquired brain injuries, disabilities, tracheostomy care, PEG feeding, and other complex clinical needs.
Residents will benefit from 24/7 registered nursing care, specialist clinical support, purpose-built facilities, and high staffing levels.
Steven Bailey, Business Manager at QME Care, said: “We know there is a real need within our communities for specialist complex care for younger adults.
“Too often people are having to move far away from their families and support networks to access the right care.
“At QME Care, we are passionate about doing what we can to change that. By expanding our services at Evanthea House, we hope to support more people to stay closer to home, maintain those vital relationships, and receive the high quality care they deserve.
“The development reflects QME Care’s ongoing commitment to responding to the changing needs of the local population and ensuring that people across the Scottish Borders can access specialist care without leaving the communities they call home.”
Evanthea House is part of QME Care’s purpose-built care facilities in Kelso and offers a “compassionate, person-centred environment where care supports not just health needs, but quality of life”.
