Newbattle Community High School Building Delay

Newbattle High School Teaching Block

Council Leader Councillor Owen Thompson expressed disappointment that building work on the replacement for Newbattle Community High School will be delayed.

This is because of factors beyond our control.

He explained: “We know local people, from pupils to teachers, residents and other stakeholders, are just as keen as we are to get started.

“However, a European ruling on how some investment projects, including the Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) programmes – of which Newbattle is one – are classified will mean a delay.

“We know the SFT and the Scottish Government are working very hard to come up with a solution and we’re optimistic that this issue will be sorted out as soon as possible and our community facility will soon be underway again.

“We will keep local people up-to-date with progress just as soon as we have any news.”

Plans for new schools at both Roslin and Paradykes are affected by the same issue. However, we are continuing with the consultation and design process to help keep these projects on track.
