NHS Borders today announced the appointment of Fiona Sandford as its new chair.

Fiona Sandford has been a non-executive director for eight years and has been in the role of interim chair following Karen Hamilton’s retirement at the end of December last year.

Peter Moore, chief executive at NHS Borders, said: “I am delighted that Fiona has taken up this role.

“She has a close personal connection to the Borders and brings a strong commitment and a wealth of experience in higher education leadership, governance and public service, alongside valuable insight from her health related advisory and charitable work.

“I am excited to continue working closely with her as we build on our current progress, drive the changes ahead and ensure NHS Borders continues to deliver high quality services for our population into the future.”

Fiona said: “I am really pleased to take on the role of Chair at NHS Borders.

“Our patients are at the heart of everything we do and I am committed to supporting our staff and the board to drive forward our organisational and clinical strategies.

“With a strong focus on prevention, community-based care and improving outcomes, I am looking forward to working closely with colleagues, partners and communities across the Borders to deliver the changes needed for the future.”
