Penicuik based motor racing driver, Colin Noble, 21, and his racing partner, Tony Wells, drove Scottish racing team Nielsen Racing/Ecurie Ecosse to second and first place finishes in rounds 9/10 at the penultimate UK LMP3 Cup Championship meeting of the season at Donington Park’s Grand Prix loop last weekend.

The results not only place Championship leaders, Colin and Tony 47 points ahead of their nearest rivals with only a maximum 54 up for grabs in the final round to be held at Silverstone on 13/14 October, but also put Colin within grasp of winning his second UK LMP3 Cup Championship in consecutive seasons.

Having battled hard for a close second place in Saturday’s Round 9 race at Donington Park, the team was pretty confident of an even better showing on Sunday and so it proved to be.

With pole position secured earlier in the day, Round 10 saw Wells battling gearbox gremlins and stiff competition before handing over to Colin who brought the car home for maximum points.

“It was obviously nice to get pole this morning and it made life a lot easier,” said Wells. “I made a good start, maintained the lead and pulled a good gap. We had a gearbox issue which was a blip on the down change, so when you brake it feels like being hit from behind. It pushed me on and I gave Colin the lead which was job done for me.”

Colin said: “We did a reset of the car at the pit stop which helped it a little bit, but in third-gear corners, the issue was pushing into them which made it a matter of getting it home for me. It’s important to get those points and we’ll see how we go at Silverstone, but at the moment, it’s looking pretty good for us.”
