Organisers of a prestigious music festival staged every year in a sumptuous Berwickshire country house have struck up a note-perfect partnership with an award-winning string quartet.

Music at Paxton 2026, this year celebrating its 20th anniversary, will take place from July 17th–26th, at Paxton House.

Paxton House is an 18th-century Palladian country house renowned for its extensive Chippendale furniture collection and association with architects Robert and James Adam.

Managed by a charitable trust, it offers tours, art galleries, and 80 acres of gardens to the public.

The setting ensures that the yearly festival is one of the most anticipated musical events of the year.

Now it has been announced that the Fibonacci Quartet has been appointed as the festival’s new Associate Ensemble for 2027-2029.

The string quartet has a growing reputation and is regarded as one of Europe’s best.

Music at Paxton artist director, Angus Smith, said: “We always have one eye on the future, and are hugely excited to welcome the exceptionally talented young members of Fibonacci Quartet – Kryštof Kohout, violin; Luna De Mol, violin; Elliot Kempton, viola; Findlay Spence, cello – to be our Associate Ensemble from 2027-29.

“Watching and listening to these brilliant musicians is a truly thrilling and uplifting experience and they are already looking forward to playing at Music at Paxton, and sharing their music with people of all ages in the Borders community.”

Formed at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the quartet were winners at the 2024 Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) International auditions and were also recently appointed as Grand Résident ensemble at ProQuartet in Paris for seasons 2025-2027.

The members of the quartet are excited to have the chance to take on the challenge at Paxton and to explore the Borders.

A spokesperson said “We have heard from many of our friends about the unique magic of the festival’s intimate atmosphere, and we can’t wait to immerse ourselves in this beautiful part of the world.

“We are particularly excited to build a lasting musical connection with audiences from all walks of life and share some of the music we love most in the coming years.”
