Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
A Peeblesshire care home has been praised for its “relaxed and cheerful atmosphere”.
Two representatives from the Care Inspectorate paid an unannounced visit to Whim Hall Care Home in West Linton on November 24.
The care home is registered to provide accommodation to a maximum of 44 older people, of which six can be under 65 years of age.
The service is owned and managed by St Philips Care Limited.
The home is divided into two units known as Whim and Tweed, each with its own private entrance.
Located within a peaceful, rural setting, access is via a shared driveway leading to the property. People have access to garden areas to enjoy the environment around the home.
At the time of the visit, 34 people were living at Whim Hall.
The inspectors found that interactions between people living at Whim Hall and staff were consistently warm, respectful, and “filled with kindness and genuine enjoyment”.
Leadership created a positive culture which was adopted into everyday life and people could be confident their home was safe to live in.
Two new areas for improvement were made to strengthen recruitment and financial recording practices.
Inspectors rated the home ‘very good’ in supporting well-being and ‘good’ for leadership, its setting and how well care and support is planned.
