A by-election will be held on Thursday 22 March for Ward No 1 Penicuik following the death of Councillor Adam Montgomery.
Kenneth Lawrie, Returning Officer and Chief Executive of Midlothian Council, said:
“Adam Montgomery represented Penicuik and served Midlothian for more than 31 years on both Lothian Region and Midlothian councils.
“His sudden death was a source of shock and sadness locally, resulting in this unexpected need to elect a new councillor for the Penicuik ward.”
You can register to vote either online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm and poll cards will be sent to all electors in the ward nearer the election.
Fuller details of the by-election arrangements can be found in the ‘nomination pack’ on the council’s website and are also available in hard copy format along with the nomination forms from the Election Office from Thursday 8 February 2018.
The last day for candidates to lodge nomination papers is Monday 19 February at 4pm.
The election will use the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system where voters can rank candidates in order of preference rather than using a single cross. Voters can give a rank to as many or as few candidates as they like.
