One of the world’s most eminent writers and thinkers, Professor Richard Dawkins, joins the Edinburgh Science Festival 2025 on 14th April for a special evening event as part of his last tour on the road.

The award-winning author of The Selfish Gene, The Blind Watchmaker and The God Delusion introduces his latest ground-breaking book, The Genetic Book of the Dead, which explores the power of Darwinian evolution and what it can reveal about the past.

Taking place at McEwan Hall, An Evening with Richard Dawkins is an unforgettable opportunity to hear from one of the world’s leading scientific figures and to unlock the door to evolutionary history, seen through wholly new eyes.

Richard Dawkins’ event joins an already stellar line-up of early on-sale events from the 2025 programme, which includes ‘The world’s most vertical woman’ and former-NASA astronaut Dr Kathy Sullivan, and Director of Community Clothing and Judge of The Great British Sewing Bee, Patrick Grant.

Programmed with support from the US Embassy, Dr Kathy Sullivan features in two festival events on 5 April. In Above and Below: An Astronaut’s View of our Planet, Kathy Sullivan shares stories and tales from her unparalleled career experiences. Sullivan will also be chatting to presenter Siân Bevan about her adventures in space and on earth in the family-focused event, Walk Like An Astronaut. Also on 5 April, Patrick Grant joins writer and broadcaster Lucy Siegle for a discussion on the crisis of consumption and quality in the fashion industry in Less with Patrick Grant.

Edinburgh Science Festival was the world’s first festival of science and technology and is still one of Europe’s largest. Returning from Saturday 5th to Sunday 20th April under the theme Spaceship Earth, the 2025 festival will explore the challenges of living on a planet with finite resources through the lenses of science fiction and space exploration.

The full programme for the 2025 Edinburgh Science Festival will be announced on 18th February.

Tickets are on-sale for An Evening With Richard Dawkins from 10am on Wednesday 29th January.
