Drawing of proposed cattery
Written by Local Democracy Reporter, Paul Kelly
A purr-fect response is awaited to plans for a new six-pod cattery in the garden of a private property in Hawick.
A proposal has been submitted to Scottish Borders Council for the partial change of use of garden ground to form a boarding cattery at Bucklands House in the Burnfoot area of the town.
A cattery is a specialized boarding facility designed to safely house, feed, and care for cats while their owners are away, similar to a kennel for dogs.
These facilities provide secure, individual, or shared indoor/outdoor pens, often with heated sleeping areas and vertical space for climbing, ensuring cats are comfortable and secure during their stay.
The new application comes from Kim Gibson, of Bucklands House, who states: “I would like permission to erect a cattery in my garden/field. The building would have six pods for cats and storage space which can be seen on the submitted plans.
“There are no protected trees on the property and no trees need to felled or cutback for the proposal.”
The building would have a PVCu framework, with toughened safety glass, insulated panelling, PawSafe Mesh, and a solid insulated roof.
