The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo that was planned to take place today has been cancelled due to bad weather for the first time in the event’s 75-year history.

The performance that was planned to take place today at 9:30pm has been cancelled due to a forecast of 80mph winds as Storm Floris hit the capital.

This is the first time in the Tattoo’s 75-year history that they have had to cancel a performance due to bad weather. Despite this, tomorrow’s show is still expected to go ahead as usual but with conttined monitoring of weather conditions.

A spokesperson for the event said in an announcement yesterday, “We’re sorry to announce that due to adverse weather warnings across Scotland, we have made the sad decision to cancel tomorrow’s performance. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Your safety, along with that of our performers and staff, is our top priority.”

“We currently expect to go ahead as usual on Tuesday 5th August, but we will continue to monitor the weather and provide any further updates on our website and social channels.”

“If you have purchased via credit card, you will receive a refund within 10 working days. If you have paid via Bank Transfer, this may take slightly longer due to the manual intervention required. You do not need to take any further action. If, however, you wish to rebook your tickets for a future date, you can find our up-to-date availability at www.edintattoo.co.uk”.

This year’s ‘The Heroes Who Made Us’ show is themed around the heroes of the Tattoo and their greatest hits from the last seven decades, as they celebrate 75 years of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The Tatto is running from the 1st of August until the 23rd.

Despite the Tattoo being known for continueing through bad weather, this is the only time it has been cancelled due to weather conditions with the only other time it’s been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the Tattoo team announcing that tomorrow’s performance is still planning to go ahead, they are hoping that today’s cancelleation is a one off.
