A pedestrian crossing is being put in place with traffic lights on three sides of the blind bend.

On Monday the council are starting improvements on the A7, between Lothianbridge and the Sun Inn.

The aim is that these upgrades will make the route safer and more accessible.

The project includes:

– Widened and improved footpaths to support safer walking and wheeling

– A new signalised pedestrian crossing at the Carrington Road junction, creating a safer point to cross, with traffic lights on three sides of the blind bend.

– Carriageway resurfacing to provide a smoother, more reliable travelling experience for road users

The work is expected to last approximately six weeks. Temporary traffic signals will be in place throughout, with manual control from 7am to 7pm daily to help keep traffic flowing and minimise disruption.

To further reduce impact, the section requiring three‑way traffic lights has been scheduled during the school holidays, when traffic volumes are typically lower.

This project is funded by Transport Scotland through in‑year investment and forms part of ongoing efforts to improve Midlothian’s transport network for local residents, visitors and businesses.
