Last autumn, Sangstream, the Scots Folk Choir based in Edinburgh started learning some songs related to Mining. It seemed appropriate that, having Mining Communities just outside the city and members whose families had been associated with Mining, we produce a concert of Music, Song and Story about Mining.

Funding to support the concert which is to be held in the Scottish Mining Museum at Newtongrange on Friday 12th May at 7.30pm was obtained from Tasgaidh, a fund devolved from Creative Scotland supporing the Creative Arts.

In producing the concert Sangstream are fortunate to be supported by St David’s Brass Band (we couldn’t have a Mining Concert without a Brass Band!), George Duff, a well known folksinger and retired Mining engineer. In addition the Museum itself is involved as more than just a venue, ex miners who work as guides in the museum will be chatting and with the presenter of the evening, Bob Laird, a Director of the Museum.

The concert promises to be diverse and engaging with mining songs, music and memories. All profits will go to local charities.

Tickets can be bought on line from national-mining-museum-scotland.arttickets.org.uk
