ScotRail is asking customers to plan ahead if travelling to the Edinburgh Marathon or Melrose 7s this weekend.
The Edinburgh Marathon Festival takes place on Sunday, 24 May, while the Melrose 7s returns to The Greenyards, home of Melrose Rugby, on Friday, 22 May, and Saturday, 23 May.
Customers attending either event are encouraged to check their journey before travelling and allow themselves extra time, as services on some routes are expected to be busier than normal.
For the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, a normal Sunday timetable will be in operation, and participants should be aware they may not be able to board their first train of choice as queuing systems will be in place at key stations before the event.
A queuing system will also be in place at Musselburgh after the marathon, to help manage customer flows safely.
Rugby fans heading to the Melrose 7s on Saturday will benefit from additional carriages throughout the day, and an additional service after the tournament ends. Customers are also encouraged to buy return tickets before travelling where possible to help make journeys smoother.
Additional ScotRail staff will be on hand across the weekend to assist customers.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said:
“Scotland is hosting two fantastic events over the weekend of 22 to 24 May, and we’re looking forward to helping customers travel to both the Edinburgh Marathon Festival and Melrose 7s.
“We’re encouraging customers to plan ahead, check their journey before travelling, and allow themselves a little extra time, particularly for the Edinburgh Marathon Festival where queuing systems will be in place at some stations to help manage customer flows safely.
“Buying return tickets in advance will also help make journeys smoother, and our staff will be on hand throughout the weekend to support customers.”
