Midlothian View reporter Liam Eunson reports.
The pilot scheme, introduced by Transport Scotland, that scrapped ScotRail peak-time rail fares ended on the 27th of September due to the plan not achieving it’s aims.
The scheme that began in October of last year saw train ticket prices drop as the scheme removed peak train fares, allowing off-peak fares to be valid all day.
Although during the scheme, train usage levels increased 6.8% the overall schemes success needed a 10% commuter increase, which it didn’t achieve.
The change in ticket prices has now seen some routes almost double in price. Scrapping off-peak train fares will certainly affect commuter’s travel habits across Scotland.
