Shawfair-Hospital

Plans to add an additional 17 bedrooms for patients at the private hospital have been given the go ahead by Midlothian planners.

The operators of Spire Shawfair Park Hospital applied for planning permission to add a new wing to the hospital which is based at Easter Park, Shawfair.

The plans were a scaled back version of extension proposals first made by the hospital as phase two of its development several years ago.

A design statement on behalf of the hospital said a review of demand had led to new plans being drawn up.

The hospital was granted planning permission 15 years ago and opened its doors at Shawfair in 2010.

It is described as a private healthcare facility providing an extensive suite of services for diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions and is in Shawfair Business Park.

Planning officers gave the go ahead to the revised extension which they described as “well designed and well considered.”

They said: “The proposal meets growth needs of an established and valued commercial operation within an existing business park, and within the footprint of the existing building.

“It is sensitive to the architectural quality of the building and its position within the wider area.

“The development would enhance this quality and improve the appearance of the building as viewed from public spaces.”
