SBC has already granted approval for the 24-hour McDonalds

It’s a sign of the times that a new £4m McDonald’s drive thru restaurant will soon be a reality in Hawick.
A planning bid has been submitted to Scottish Borders Council for the installation of illuminated and non-illuminated signage at the site of the fast food outlet in Commercial Road.
SBC has already granted approval for the 24-hour outlet which will create 100 new jobs and includes a drive-thru restaurant, coffee shop and electric vehicle charging hub.
The two acre site also incorporates 38 car parking spaces.
The development represents a potential £4m investment in the local economy and will contribute between £50k and £60k a year in business rates.
The report with the submission states: “The proposed signs advertise the presence of the proposed McDonald’s restaurant and provide required guidance for customers navigating the drive-thru service.
“They are therefore appropriate to the use of this consented unit and the wider area.
“It is considered that the proposed signage will be seen in the context of the neighbouring Sainsbury’s and Aldi and will not negatively impact the adjacent conservation area.”
