Small grant funding for local groups

Monday August 29th 2016

Are you part of a community group in Midlothian? Do you have an idea for a project that could improve the lives of local people?  If the answer is yes, your group could be eligible for grant funding of up to £3,000 from Midlothian Council.

The funding, for projects in 2017/18, is to help community groups, charities and social enterprises improve the quality of life of people living in Midlothian. Projects must demonstrate that they will support a community as a geographical area or as a community of interest.

Three different funding streams are available, Developing Communities; Health and Physical Activity; Employability, Learning and Training. Applications can be made to more than one stream.

Gala day funding for 2017/18 is not provided under this small grants programme.  However, organisers will receive separate information about the funding process for galas and festivals.

“Local groups and volunteers already play a vital role in supporting Midlothian’s communities,” said council leader, councillor Cath Johnstone.  “This small grant programme will help support them in taking forward projects which can make a real difference to the lives of people living in the area.  I would encourage every local group to think about what more they could do and to apply for funding to help take their ideas forward.”

You can download an application pack for small grant funding now at www.midlothian.gov.uk/funding or if you would like further details, contact Midlothian Council by email at grants@midlothian.gov.uk or call 0131 270 6765.  Applications for 2017/18 must be submitted by Friday 7 October 2016.

Grant surgery drop-in sessions have also been arranged to provide assistance with applications.  These will be held on Wednesday 7 September from 5 to 7pm at Mayfield & Easthouses Development Trust; Tuesday 13 September from 5 to 7pm at Midlothian Voluntary Action, White Hart Street, Dalkeith; Wednesday 14 September from 2 to 4pm at Penicuik Town Hall; Tuesday 20 September from 2 to 4pm at Lasswade Library, and Tuesday 27 September from 5 to 7pm at Gorebridge Library.
